SECTOR: VICE CHANCELLOR FOR ADMINISTRATION & FINANCE
Anthony Travelstead came to SIU as an area transfer student in the fall of 1997. He began working for the University as a student employee at Campus Mail Service in fall of 1998. On Graduating from SIU in 2001 with a Bachelors degree in Anthropology, he began to work full time for the University. For the next 11 years, he has held a number of positions at Campus Mail Service and is currently the Mail Services Supervisor in charge of overseeing all outgoing United States Postal Service mail processing for the entire University.
Anthony was first nominated to the Civil Service Council in 2008-2009, and for most of the next 4 years, he has served on a number of Council committees, including Public Affairs, Staff Excellence Award, and the Education Assistance. Anthony will be starting his second term as the Education Assistance Committee Chairman and works hard alongside the other committee members to fundraise for the Civil Service Council's educational scholarships, which they award every semester to dependents of SIU Civil Service Employees. He really enjoys being able to give back to the University, its students and its employees.
Outside of work, Anthony enjoys spending time with his wife of 15 years, his 3 sons, daughter and granddaughter. He enjoys going on family vacations, camping and participating with his kids in their school, football, and gymnastics activities. Anthony has also been heavily involved, with his sons, over the past 12 years in the Boy Scouts of America within the Greater St Louis Area Council. On the local level, he has held a number of leadership positions on the Cub Scout, Boy Scout, and district levels. Currently, Anthony serves as an Assistant Scoutmaster for his home troop in Murphysboro and recently finished a three-year term as District Training Chairman, overseeing all scout training activities within the local counties of Alexander, Perry, Pulaski, Jackson, Johnson, and Union. He has also served on a number of council-wide Training Staffs covering most of southern Illinois, Southeast Missouri, and the entire St Louis area west of the Mississippi River.
