My name is Matthew Stottler. My wife, who is a double alumna, and I have three children and I am a long-time resident of Southern Illinois. Our children are born and raised here in Carterville and my wife is from Mt Carmel. I am from Springfield. Our family (2 girls, 21 and 8, and a boy, 12) have always engaged with the campus and they have all grown up with a Saluki mentality.

I came to Carbondale in 2001 to go to school for Architectural Studies after earning an associate degree from Lewis and Clark Community College in Godfrey, Illinois. I also joined the local Illinois National Guard unit in Carbondale. After a deployment to Iraq from 2005 to mid-2006, I returned to finish an Electronics System’s Technology degree in 2009 while working in several roles at Network Engineering as a student worker, UGA, temporary extra help, etc. I was not able to finish my Architectural Studies degree and joined the workforce while helping take care of my growing family. Leaving in 2010 to work in various IT roles I returned in 2013 to work as a Communications Technician III in the Telecommunications Department of OIT.

I have run for Civil Service Council several times and first sat as a member in 2021. I am currently the Council Secretary and proud to be able to contribute to the work and efforts of the council in that capacity. I believe in service and active advocation of the civil servant populations’ interests here at SIUC, of which I am a proud member, the SIU System, and the greater State of Illinois Civil Servants. Representing this constituency and the University itself as an Employee, Representative, Alumnus, and Student is a great honor and source of pride. Thank you for this opportunity.
