The SIU Civil Service Council appreciates all members of the campus who attended and helped make possible the SIU HR Open Forum. It is the goal of the council to help address campus-wide issues that affect staff members. The presentation from SIU HR staff members was in response to individual questions submitted and the following topics that the SIU Civil Service Council provided before the event.

The CBIZ Study:

  • General updates where are we in the process
  • Timeline and process for reconsiderations
  • New SUCSS classifications details on how they will work and when they go into effect

Desk Audits:

  • What is the current status of the Desk Audit process?
  • Can you walk us through the new process?

Temporary Upgrades:

  • Process for and situations where they would be the solution

Fringe Benefits Statements:

  • Will the university move to an automatic system for sending out fringe benefit statements?
    • If so, what is the expected launch date, and how will this look for employees?
    • Will fringe reports have broken down ESL and FMLA to help clarify for both staff and their supervisors who are approving time off?

Extended Sick Leave Replacement:

  • Overall general updates on this new item
  • Which Civil Service employee groups are eligible for the new 20 days?
  • What is the effective date for this transition?
  • Policy Usage & Documentation:
    • Under the new policy, how many consecutive days can an employee be absent before formal medical paperwork is required?
    • What does the new workflow for submitting this paperwork look like for the employee and their supervisor?
    • Do employees have to work one day in the FY to be eligible, or will they be able to use both FY’s back to back?

The goal of the SIU Civil Service Council is to keep these conversations occurring more frequently and continue working towards more open and effective communication for staff campus-wide.
